WED, JUN 18 ARRIVE GDANSK (DINNER).
Arrive Gdansk and transfer to our hotel – afternoon at leisure. In the evening, we will meet for a casual dinner to meet the group.
THU, JUN 19 GDANSK (BREAKFAST, WELCOME DINNER)
After breakfast we meet our local guide to explore Gdansk. We sail (weather permitting) to historic Westerplatte where the German invasion of Poland on September 1st, 1939 officially marked the beginning of World War II. From Westerplatte we board our coach and drive to the Solidarity Monument and the European Solidarity Centre, which is a museum devoted to the history of Solidarity, the Polish trade union and civil resistance movement, and other opposition movements of Communist Eastern Europe. The museum is located next to the entrance to the famous Gdansk shipyard. Next is our walking tour of the old town which will highlight the main sights such as the Golden Gate, the Long Market, St. Mary's Basilica, and Mariacka Street. Free time.
In the evening we will drive to a Kashubian Inn outside of Gdansk for our welcome dinner with live music and folklore.
FRI, JUN 20 GDANSK – OLIWA - GDYNIA - SOPOT – GDANSK (BREAKFAST, LUNCH )
Today we explore the tri-city of Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia. After breakfast we will first drive to the Oliwa district near Gdansk that is famous for its Cathedral with its one-of-a-kind pipe organ that was originally designed and constructed by a Cistercian Monk between 1763 and 1783. After a short recital we continue to the seaport of Gdynia and visit the pier from where thousands of immigrants left their homeland in search of a new life in the Americas. Next stop is Sopot, a fashionable seaside resort with the longest wooden pier in Europe measuring 511.5 metres. Lunch at a seaside restaurant and then free time to stroll the pier and explore the pedestrian street "Monte Cassino" with its many restaurants and cafes as well as the famous Crooked House.
Return to Gdansk and you are free to enjoy the last evening here at your leisure.
SAT, JUN 21 GDANSK – TORUN – WARSAW (BREAKFAST, LUNCH)
Today we depart Gdansk and start our journey south. We stop in Torun for a walking tour of this medieval town where Nicolaus Copernicus was born. Torun has long been famous as a center of gingerbread and is truly one of the most magnificent historic cities of Poland, its Old Town has been included on the UNESCO list. Lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to Warsaw.
Evening at your leisure or join us for a magnificent sound and light show at the Multimedia Fountains.
SUN, JUN 22 WARSAW – ZELAZOWA WOLA – MAURZYCE - WARSAW (BREAKFAST, LUNCH)
After breakfast we drive to Zelazowa Wola, the small village where Frederic Chopin was born on Feb 22,1810. Visit the museum devoted to the great composer and his family. At noon there is an outdoor piano recital to add to the ambience. From Zelazowa Wola we visit the open-air museum of Łowicz's Folk Culture in Maurzyce, located on the outskirts of Lowicz.
Lunch at a local inn with local folk presentation. Return to Warsaw and enjoy your evening at leisure.
MON, JUN 23 WARSAW (BREAKFAST, LUNCH)
Today our walking tour of the Old Town includes the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Castle Square, and Old Town Square.
We then continue by coach for a driving tour that takes us past the Palace of Science and Culture, the former Warsaw Ghetto and National Opera House. Stopping at Lazienki Park we visit the famous Chopin Monument and then stroll through this wonderful green space to see the Palace on the Water (weather permitting). After lunch, the rest of the day is at your leisure.
TUE, JUN 24 WARSAW – CZESTOCHOWA – ZAKOPANE (BREAKFAST, DINNER)
We leave Warsaw early this morning and travel south to Czestochowa to visit the Jasna Gora Monastery, Poland's most important shrine with the Black Madonna. After our visit we continue our journey south to Zakopane located at the foot of the Tatra Mountains. Tonight we will enjoy a casual “grill” dinner at our hotel tonight.
WED, JUN 25 ZAKOPANE (BREAKFAST, CHEESE TASTING)
Morning tour by bus to see the highlights of Zakopane including the wooden chapel at Jaszczurowka, the ski-jumphill and the Shrine
of Our Lady of Fatima. We will visit a local woodcarver in his workshop as well as a “bacowka” where local oscypek cheese is
smoked. We end our tour with a cable car (funicular) ride to the top of Gubalowka Mountain for a great view of the
Tatra Mountains. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure to shop the colorful open market and explore as you wish.
THU, JUN 26 ZAKOPANE – DUNAJEC RIVER RAFTING EXCURSION (BREAKFAST, DINNER)
After breakfast we drive about an hour out of Zakopane to embark on our river rafting experience on the Dunajec River. Winding through the spectacular scenery of the Pieniny National Park we will be zig-zagging back and forth across the Polish and Slovak border. Free time for a snack before we return to Zakopane. Dinner tonight at a typical highlander inn with live entertainment.
FRI, JUN 27 ZAKOPANE – KRAKOW (BREAKFAST, LUNCH)
Depart Zakopane after breakfast. Upon arrival in Krakow we will first make a stop in Kazimierz for a visit and lunch in the historic Jewish Quarter. Continue by bus to Royal Wawel Hill and from here by foot to Europe's largest Market Square, the gem of this 13th-century merchants' town with the Cloth Hall as its centrepiece as well as St. Mary’s Church. Continue to the Florianska Gate, the Barbican and then we arrive at our hotel for check-in. The rest of the day is yours to relax and enjoy the ambience of Krakow.
SAT, JUN 28 KRAKOW – AUSCHWITZ (OPTIONAL EXCURSION) (BREAKFAST)
Enjoy today at your own pace. Perhaps a morning visit to the Stary Kleparz where you can visit the interesting stalls at this market.
We can offer an optional excursion to Auschwitz & Birkenau today, a concentration and extermination camp that was operated by Nazi Germany in occupied Poland during World War II. Please advise at time of booking if you would like to participate. Cost of the excursion will be $ 60CAD / $ 50USD per person.
SUN, JUN 29 KRAKOW - WIELICZKA SALT MINE – KRAKOW (BREAKFAST, FAREWELL DINNER)
This afternoon we visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine, a UNESCO Heritage Site. This salt mine has been operating since the 13th century. An unforgettable attraction with underground chambers, grottoes and chapels all carved from salt. Afterwards, we take a short ride to the restaurant for our farewell dinner that will be accompanied by a colorful local song & dance performance.
